pinch

这三个动词共同的意思是“挤,压”。它们的区别在于:

1.press指力量来自于上方。例如:

Press the button, then the machine will work.按下电钮,机器就能运转了。

Press the button to ring the bell.按那个钮可以打铃。

2.pinch指用手指捏、拧或夹。例如:

The child was crying because somebody had pinched her.那孩子哭了,因为有人掐她。

He pinched the boy's face playfully.他开玩笑地拧了这男孩的脸。

3.squeeze指外在的力量作用于物体上,力量可来自各个方面,可用于比喻。例如:

这组词都可表示“窃取”。它们的区别是：

1.steal含义最广而且最通用,指任何一类偷窃行为,也指偷偷地行动,强调行动的狡猾或秘密。

2.filch尤指用不正当手段悄悄偷走,多指日常不严重的事情。例如:

His father caught him filching apples.父亲撞见他偷苹果。

3.lift指偷走或剽窃别人的文章,常用在口语中。例如:

Long passages in this textbook have been lifted from other authors.教科书中有很长篇幅是摘录其他作者的文章。

4.pinch泛指不道德的扒窃或不告而取,有时也指小偷小摸,顺手牵羊。例如:

The thief pinched her purse and ran.小偷偷了她的皮夹子跑了。

5.purloin常强调偷走或剽窃某物据为己有或供自己使用。例如:

My car's been purloined.我的汽车被偷了。
