opportunity

这三种用法意思相同，只是opportunity for+ n. 用的不普遍；而opportunity for+ v -ing在美国不如opportunity+to- v 用的普遍，在英国则相反。

这组词都指有利于某种目的的事态或形势的“时机，机会”。它们的区别是：

opportunity指为做某事提供了开端的形势，特别是适合于自己的爱好、抱负、愿望的形式；occasion指提供了引起某种行动的好时机；chance指幸运地或偶然地到来的机会，在否定的表达中则指正常的或公正的机会；break指侥幸的机会，通常是好机会；而time则指适时的机会。例如：

He catches at every opportunity to practise the piano.他抓住每一个机会练习弹钢琴。

He took the occasion to satisfy his desire for revenge. 他抓住了这个机会满足了他报复的欲望。

This was the chance he had been waiting for. 这是他等待着的机会。

He had no chance to get away. 他没有机会脱身。

She's won too. What's a break! 她也赢了，真是好运气！

Now it is your time. 现在正是你的好机会。

这两个词的意思相近，但不相同，它们的区别是：

1.opportunity的意思是“机会”；而possibility的意思是“可能”。

2.opportunity用于have the opportunity to- v / v -ing结构；而possibility用于there is a possibility of sth happening结构。

试比较以下两句：

I have the opportunity to go to Denmark next year.

明年我有机会去丹麦。（= I can go...）

There's a possibility of my going to Denmark next year.

明年我有可能去丹麦。（= I may go...）
